From Lucknow to the UK: Kraftors Enters a New Chapter in AI, Research and Digital Health

Kraftors signs MoU with Healthy Ideas LTD, UK for exploring co-development of digital health solutions such as Continual Sleep.

At Kraftors, we have always felt that Technology is about more than just creating what is wanted. Our UK–India AI collaboration with Healthy Ideas LTD, UK, is an important step in that direction.

Our first steps were in software development and we are still involved in software development. However, from the outset we had a grander vision – to develop the knowledge, technology and research that could enable us to solve challenging problems, and develop products ourselves. 

The collaboration brings together UK-based sleep and health science expertise with Kraftors’ technology. The Healthy Ideas team brings experience across clinical research, public health, behavioral science and scientific research, while Kraftors contributes its expertise in AI, machine learning, software engineering and technical architecture.

The Memorandum of Understanding is an opportunity for both organisations to explore a strategic partnership in the field of digital health. Healthy Ideas brings scientific, clinical, public health and behavioural science expertise, while Kraftors brings capabilities in technology, software engineering, AI and technical architecture.

Continual Sleep is one of the areas we are working towards together – a healthcare-focused sleep application we are currently developing.

Why this matters to Kraftors

For us, this is not simply another project.

We didn’t set off on Kraftors with the idea of taking requirements from everyone and making it software.

Instead, we should have been more determined, creating something over time.

Our goal was to have our engineers and technology teams work on problems where the answer isn’t already known.

Issues that should be investigated, data-driven, experimental, machine learning and lifelong learning. 

This is the core we feel that can keep a technology company relevant for the long haul.

Technology will change continually. The tools which are in use now can be the legacy systems of tomorrow. However, skills in learning, researching and problem solving are still useful no matter what technology takes the place of the next.

It’s for this reason that we’ve put more and more effort into AI and machine learning, data science and research-driven development.

Continual Sleep: A UK–India Digital Health Collaboration

Sleep tracking may look simple from the outside.

A person is fitted with a device and sits in bed until the next day, when a report is given to them. However, there is a very difficult question below that line of the report:

Are there technologies that can tell if a person is asleep or awake? 

A person can be awake while lying completely still.They might be thinking, sleeping, attempting to fall asleep or waking up partially at night. 

These times can be hard to differentiate for a system analysing wearables.

This is the type of problem that we are interested in.

A primary aim with Continual Sleep is not to create another application based on a well-known technology. We want to delve into the root cause of the problem, interact with data, build and test machine-learning solutions, discover why they’re wrong and work to make them right.

The product is still in the development phase and there is a lot to do.

We are not saying that we have a solution to the problem.

We are stating that we will work on that. 

Why the UK–India AI Collaboration Matters

Issues in healthcare need more than technology.

They need to understand the clinical needs and behaviours and the actual healthcare settings.

This Kraftors UK India AI collaboration is significant because it combines domain and technology expertise, and not just technology as a service.

It is also for Kraftors, for us, the kind of international relationship we would like to establish more in the future, not just an implementation partner type, but technology and co-development partner type. 

Building Global AI Technology from Lucknow

Kraftors is based in Lucknow, India.

There will always be assumptions on where advanced technology and AI/ML can come from.

But we think ability should be judged by the quality of the people, the depth of the work and what a business can do, rather than where a business is on Earth.

A project in the UK with an organisation in the healthcare sector thus has a personal impact on us.

It reflects the future of which we want to participate: Global cooperation, serious engineering and technology based on scientific research that is supported by Lucknow. 

We don’t want geography to limit our ambition.

What Comes Next

This MoU is one step in a much larger journey.

Our ambition is to continue developing Kraftors as a company that can do more than deliver software.

We want to build capabilities in:

  • AI and Machine Learning.
  • Data Science.
  • Research and experimentation.
  • Healthcare technology.
  • Proof-of-concept development.
  • Product development.
  • Global co-development.

Most importantly, we want to build a culture where our own research, knowledge and engineering become part of the company’s long-term foundation.

We didn’t start Kraftors just to build technology for today.

Instead, we started it to build a company that can keep learning, creating and solving problems for many years to come.

The collaboration with Healthy Ideas LTD is an important step towards that vision.

This is the direction we are building towards.
